Original Ghostbusters Car and Tech to Appear in Reboot?

Take this with a grain of salt until it is confirmed. The way that an article is written about Sony’s plans for products based on the 2016 reboot of Ghostbusters, it sounds like a massive number of elements from the original films may be showing up.

The article mentions that over 90 licensees are planning products around both the classic films and the 2016 remake, so this could be in reference to the products around the original films. The sentence structure could just be poor and misleading, but we’ll get to why in a second.

Here’s what the article at License Mag says:

Classic elements from the film franchise will be making appearances in the new movie  and its consumer products program such as the Ecto-1, Slimer, the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man, proton packs, PKE meters and more. [Emphasis added.]

However, what leads me to kind of doubt this is what was said a little earlier in the article.

Sony plans to continue its successful merchandising program for the classic Ghostbusters films alongside the new movie and any future content. Long-time partners such as Mattel and LEGO will continue to release regular offerings for collectors inspired by the imagery of the original films, while a slate of more than 90 new licensees has already signed on to develop merchandise for the 2016 remake.

So there’s some doubt about what sorts of things from the first movie. Also casting a bit more doubt was this: “The movie will be a complete re-imagining of the Ghostbusters team and its origin, a new mission, new ghosts and a new villain.”

This month they start filming the new Ghostbusters, and I’m sure pictures of the cast will be coming in short order. Potentially with whatever mode of transportation they use, and hopefully some proton packs. So we’ll get confirmation either way within the next month or so.

I’m more excited for the Ghostbusters stuff than I am for the reboot, currently. But that reboot could lead to more great films, cartoons, etc., which is part of the plan anyway. I’m ready… but is my bank account?
