Just a couple of weeks ago SyFy officially announced they picked up the production of Magicians, a new television adaptation of Lev Grossman’s bestselling 2009 fantasy novel of the same name. Now we already have a first look into the 12 episode television series in a new trailer!
The trailer offers a glimpse of Quentin Coldwater, Julia, Brakebills University, and even the original Fillory books. If the actors look a bit too old to be playing 17 year olds it’s because the producers have actually aged up the characters so that they’re graduate students instead of freshman in college.
Kelly Orazi is currently a graduate student of medieval and fantasy literature at the newly founded Mythgard Institute. Her interests range from children’s fantasy literature (especially Harry Potter) and modern fantasy to medieval and classical literature. Her scholarly work on fantasy has been presented at Mythcon 43 and at 2013’s largest Harry Potter conference, LeakyCon Portland.
