Ancient Space Reveals First Gameplay, Pre-order Now Available

There was once a time space  games dominated the video gaming scene. Whether you were playing HomeworldX-Wing vs TIE Fighter, Starsiege — one thing was certain: game developers were fascinated with exploring the unexplored. Somewhere in the past few years, however, this trend has fallen off. While strategy games such as Sins of a Solar Empire have come about, a true full axis RTS game has not been seen for quite some time.

Thankfully, that is about to change.

Stockholm based game publisher Paradox Interactive has released a 4 minute long video showing the first gameplay elements to their upcoming space RTS Ancient Space. Developed by CreativeForge Studios, Ancient Space pits you as the commander of a scientific exploration in a section of space known as “The Black Zone.” The missions are modeled after time-honored RTS traditions — from defense to offensive missions, as well as stealth, escort and so on. The game will also feature full 3D navigation, requiring players to develop strategies to defend the x, y and z axes.

Along with the gameplay revealed in the video, the developers give us a little bit of insight into their game, including information regarding The Black Zone, your flagship, the Ulysses II, and their idea behind the purpose of your fleet being there. In addition, the team announced that the game will be voice acted by many familiar voices spanning sci-fi franchises such as Battlestar Gallactica, Star Trek and Firefly.

Watch the video below, and if you’re interested the game is now available for pre-order on the official Paradox website. Purchase the game now and receive a 10% discount. The game releases on PC/MAC September 23.
