A Sherlock Special in the Works?

Oh, Steven Moffatt. You are so good at stringing us along.

After an incredibly intriguing but woefully brief season three of BBC’s Sherlock, fans were disappointed to hear that the wait for season four may extend into 2016. However, Martin Freeman let slip on Alan Carr’s Chatty Man that the Sherlock cast may film a “one-off special” to satiate our appetites.

Freeman admits that he is game for the idea: “Mark Gatiss may beat me up, but there is an idea for this one-off special that’s such a good idea, and as I was listening to it I thought, ‘We’ve just got to do this…And I don’t know when we are going to be able to do it, unfortunately.”

Freeman is a busy man these days, starring in Peter Jackson’s wildly successful Hobbit films. In addition, Freeman stars alongside Billy Bob Thorton in the FX dark comedy Fargo.

The problem? Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman are in such high demand, that it is difficult to coordinate schedules in order to film additional episodes. Fans were concerned when a rumor rippled through the internet which suggested Tom Hiddleston may replace Cumberbatch. However, Cumberbatch had already signed a contract for at least ONE more season of Sherlock.

We hope that Freeman and Cumberbatch can reprise their roles as the beloved Sherlock and Dr. Watson. If it’s not broke, why attempt to fix it?
