BBC’s Statement Regarding SDCC Doctor Who Trailer

As many Whovians know by now, an exclusive trailer for the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special was shown at SDCC last weekend. While it was probably amazing for those in attendance, many UK fans were understandably confused and irate when they learned the trailer would not be put online (in any official capacity, at least) and was solely for viewing at Comic-Con.

On July 26, the BBC issued this statement regarding the backlash to clarify their actions:

“This was an exclusive Comic Con trailer made especially for the Doctor Who 50th panel, it has not been released in the US.”

Well, that’s…better? Nevermind the fact that thousands of other fans in the US could not attend the convention, not counting the thousands of other fans overseas. My question is this: why not just throw the thing up on YouTube of the official Doctor Who website in a few weeks and be done with this headache?
